#F1 pre-race stats ahead of this weekend’s #AzerbaijanGP in Baku

After a quick trip across the Atlantic, F1 returns to Europe and Baku for the second time for what is now known as the Azerbaijan GP.

Lewis Hamilton’s dominant display in Canada saw him cut Sebastian Vettel’s championship lead to just 12 points, but whereas Montreal is a happy hunting ground for the Briton with three successive victories, he struggled around the tight streets of Baku last year.

Qualifying 10th, Hamilton eventually finished fifth at the inaugural race in Azerbaijan, then known as the European GP, while Vettel was on the podium alongside Hamilton’s then team-mate Nico Rosberg.

The 1.4 mile blast from the final proper corner back across the start/finish line will mean engine performance will be key this weekend, but teams won’t be able to trim too much downforce from the cars with some tight twists around the back of the circuit.
