THE owner of an award-winning Perth winery has been sentenced to six years jail for repeatedly raping a young foreign farmhand who worked for him.
Peter Raymond Costa, who owns Chidlow’s Well Estate in the Perth Hills, was found guilty in August of three counts of sexual penetration without consent in the District Court.
Costa was this morning sentenced to an immediate term of imprisonment by Judge Michael Gething who described the attack as opportunistic.
“You took advantage of her extreme level of intoxication in order to assault her,” Judge Gething said.
During the four-day trial, the jury was told Costa, 57, attacked the 24-year-old — who was being paid only in food and board — after a drunken dinner with another foreign worker while his wife was away in March 2015.
