Optus Stadium chief Brad Paatsch axed day after opening

OPTUS Stadium will go into today’s blockbuster Perth Scorchers semifinal without one of its key executives after its chief operating officer lost his job a day after Sunday’s inaugural event.

Brad Paatsch, the architect of several of the corporate deals that underpin the stadium’s finances, was blindsided on Monday by news he was being made redundant.

The shock departure, which comes as the stadium defends how it handled teething problems at Sunday’s one-day international between Australia and England, was part of a broader management shake-up, according to Optus Stadium chief executive Mike McKenna.

Mr McKenna said Mr Paatsch’s departure was unrelated to problems — including long queues at some food vendors, a streaker and beer taps running dry — on Sunday…
