A BRAVE third-quarter fightback wasn’t enough for Fremantle as they slumped to a 26-point defeat to the Western Bulldogs in their AFLW season opener at Whitten Oval today.
Bulldogs captain Katie Brennan dominated, kicking three goals as the Dockers were held scoreless in an embarrassing first-half display.
Fremantle kicked three goals to none on the back of a stiffening breeze in the third term, but fell away late in the 7.7 (49) to 3.5 (23) defeat.
Inaugural best-and-fairest winner Dana Hooker (12 possessions) and captain Kara Donnellan (12) were among the few good performers in a disappointing first-up showing by the Dockers.
Bulldogs stars Ellie Blackburn (23 disposals, one goal) and Emma Kearney (18 touches) were superb through the midfield.
