Police shoot teenager in chest at house south of Brisbane

Police tape around a house where police shot a teenage boyPolice have shot a 16-year-old boy in the chest while responding to a disturbance in the Ipswich suburb of Springfield, south of Brisbane, this afternoon.

Earlier police described the victim as a young man and other sources said he was in his early 20s, but police later confirmed he was a teenager.

It is believed the boy was shot twice.

It is not clear at this stage what prompted the shooting.

The shooting occurred after officers were called to a house in Danube Crescent just before 2:30pm.

Police said the boy was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

An investigation of the incident will be conducted by the police ethical standards command.
