Police have shot a 16-year-old boy in the chest while responding to a disturbance in the Ipswich suburb of Springfield, south of Brisbane, this afternoon.
Earlier police described the victim as a young man and other sources said he was in his early 20s, but police later confirmed he was a teenager.
It is believed the boy was shot twice.
It is not clear at this stage what prompted the shooting.
The shooting occurred after officers were called to a house in Danube Crescent just before 2:30pm.
Police said the boy was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
An investigation of the incident will be conducted by the police ethical standards command.
