A Hunter Valley man who tortured and murdered his stepdaughter with bed slats, belts and electrical cords has been sentenced to 37 years in jail.
The 33-year-old, who can only be referred to as JK, murdered his 12-year-old stepdaughter, known as CN, in the New South Wales Hunter Valley in September 2015.
He pleaded guilty to the crime in November.
The Supreme Court of NSW heard the girl had been repeatedly bashed for four years, during a sentencing hearing today.
“At one stage she was tied up in the garage with her hands secured to a beam in the garage roof,” Justice Peter Hamill said.
“The assaults became more regular and more violent.
“CN was tied facedown to a bed, a sock was placed in her mouth to muffle her screams, and she was struck with various weapons, including wooden bed slats and belts.”
