West Coast ruckman Nathan Vardy will spend at least the next month on the sidelines with a groin injury.
Vardy, 26, was carried off Lathlain Park after hurting himself in a ruck contest during the final term of Sunday’s closed practice match against Fremantle.
“The scans and doctor’s prognosis is probably a little bit worse than we’d first expected; he’s going to take some time to recover,” West Coast football manager Craig Vozzo told the club website.
“We’re thinking it’s probably a month to six-week injury, but we’re not really going to know until he starts healing and then we start taking him through each phase of the recovery process.”
His injury throws a spanner in the works for West Coast, with fellow ruckmen Nic Naitanui and Scott Lycett both available but coming off significant injuries of their own.
