WA bushfires: fireys battling blaze in Bunbury as emergency warning is put in place

The bushfire near Bunbury has been upgraded to an emergency.AN out-of-control bushfire near Bunbury has been upgraded from a watch and act to an emergency warning.

About 80 firefighters are battling the blaze in the northern parts of Picton.

The emergency warning has been issued for people in the vicinity of Estuary Drive, Old Coast Road, Koombana Drive and Forrest Highway in the northern parts of Picton, and eastern Glen Iris, Pelican Point and Vittoria in the City of Bunbury.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services says there is a possible threat to lives and homes, with the bushfire out-of-control and unpredictable. It is currently moving fast in a west-north westerly direction.

Police are evacuating people in homes along Newton Road and Johnson Road in Vittoria.

A number of roads have been closed, including Forrest Highway from Eaton Drive to Vittoria Road and Willinge Drive from South Western Highway to Estuary Drive.

Old Coast Road from Forrest Highway to Estuary Drive is closed, as well as Estuary Drive from Willinge Drive to Old Coast Road.
