A FORMER Perth City Council employee has admitted to official corruption, taking bribes and lying to the CCC, on the day he was due to go to trial over the long-running allegations.
In WA’s District Court today, Brett Edward Kenny, 57, pleaded guilty to acting corruptly to gain a benefit between 2012 and 2014, seeking a bribe in 2013, and giving false and misleading evidence to the Corruption and Crime Commission during a hearing in 2014.
The allegations were first revealed in 2016, when Kenny was arrested at a brothel in Canberra and extradited back to WA, after a hearing in the ACT was told the original charges related to a $350,000 fraud from which he was personally alleged to have gained $25,000.
Today, in the charges Kenny pleaded guilty to, it was said he had acted corruptly to gain a benefit for himself and Hervey Harms, the director of a Perth electrical contracting company.
He also admitted that between August and December 2013 he had sought a monthly bribe of $1000 in return for work to the value of $5000.
