West Coast coach Adam Simpson has questioned the surface at Optus Stadium after his team’s latest injury setback.
Emerging forward Daniel Venables is set to miss up to three months due to a serious ankle injury sustained against Gold Coast at the new Burswood venue on Saturday night.
Venables had scans on his lower right leg after he limped from the field in the third quarter of West Coast’s 80-point thrashing of the Suns and did not return.
Simpson confirmed on SEN this morning that Venables’ injury was the same as what high-flying goalsneak Liam Ryan has suffered against Geelong on the same ground just six days earlier.
“Unfortunately he’ll be the same (timeframe) as Liam,” Simpson said.
