WA weathers second hottest April on record and driest in 24 years as summer bleeds into autumn

A photo of a bridge at Fitzroy CrossingWestern Australia has experienced its second-warmest April on record, with a number of spots across the state recording their hottest-ever day for the month.

Across the state, last month’s maximum temperatures were 2.99 degrees Celsius above average, making it the second highest April on record behind 1981.

The hot April may come as a surprise to Perth residents, coming off the back of an unseasonably mild summer in which not one day above 40C was recorded.
