#Perth weather: city and surrounding coastal areas put on severe weather alert as storm front closes in

An area of the coast from Geraldton to Albany, including Perth, has been put on severe weather alert for Monday as a cold front closes in – packing damaging winds and heavy rainfall.

The warning, issued by the Bureau of Meteorology at 4pm on Sunday, applies to people in the Lower West and South West regions – including Perth – and also parts of the Central West and South Coastal districts. It extends as far inland as Moora, Collie and Manjimup. The warning forecasts heavy rainfall that may deliver flash flooding developing south-west of a line from Bunbury to Walpole about 5am Monday morning.

That rainfall will then extend as far north as Perth after midday and through the rest of the warning area by 5pm.Meanwhile, dangerous north-westerly winds that could reach up to 100km/h are possible south-west of a line from Bunbury to Walpole from early Monday morning. They could result in damage to homes and property. The warning also includes high tides between Shark Bay and Cape Leeuwin that, combined with very rough seas, could lead to flooding of low-lying coastal areas.
