Thai cave rescue: What we know about the trip out of the cave – Trip out with the boys takes almost eight hours

Four members of the Thai soccer team trapped inside a cave are now free.The huge operation to rescue the remaining members is still underway, but we’ve learned a little about how rescuers managed to get the first four boys out.

Last week, we heard it took professional divers about three hours to reach the space where the group is sheltering.

But the trip out with the first group of boys was a much longer, and more delicate operation.The ABC’s South-East Asia correspondent Liam Cochrane is at the cave, and he says to get out of the complex the boys have to wade and dive through floodwaters, before climbing and walking to the cave entrance.The narrowest gap during the dive is just 38cm wide.
