Retired #Perth vet Craig Challen unsung hero of Thai cave rescue

WHEN retired Perth vet and cave diving expert Craig Challen got the call to ask if he would help rescue the trapped Thai soccer team he hesitated just long enough to pack a bag.

The 53-year-old, who has been revealed as one of the heroes at the heart of the cave rescue, was preparing for a trip to the Nullarbor Plain with his Adelaide diving partner Richard “Harry” Harris.

Instead the long-time dive buddies flew to Thailand a week ago today to become part of an extraordinary rescue that had the world on the edge of its seat, nobody more so than Mr Challen’s partner of 20 years, Heather Endall.
