‘Whale in the sky’ makes its first flight as Airbus Beluga departs France. More than 10,000 people applauded as it took to the skies.

THERE’S still no word on whether pigs can fly — but you aren’t going mad if you spot a whale soaring past your window anytime soon because Airbus’s Beluga XL aircraft — nicknamed the “whale in the sky” has taken off for the first time.It took off from Toulouse Airport in France this morning for its maiden flight.

A crowd of more than 10,000 people, mostly employees and subcontractors of the European aircraft manufacturer, applauded as it took to the skies.
