#Perth weather: Commuter chaos as cold front brings rain and wild winds

JUST hours into a relentless four-day rain spell, the freeway was flooded and debris is being strewn over Perth roads.

This morning’s cold front arrived with a vengeance, with 5.6mm of rain falling from 6am until 7am alone and a whopping 9.2mm falling in the Perth Hills suburb of Bickley.

By 7am, the Mitchell Freeway was flooded at Cedric Street, resulting in two northbound lanes being closed and causing delays to peak hour traffic.

In Willagee, wild overnight winds brought down a tree over Leach Highway, blocking two lanes this morning. The tree was moved by emergency crews by 7.30am.

A Perth Airport spokesperson said flights were running as normal this morning but staff were keeping a close eye on conditions, with forecast strong winds this afternoon.

A huge part of WA, including Perth, has been put on a severe weather warning today with wind gusts up to 125km/h set to accompany heavy rain, damaging surf and possible thunderstorms.

The Bureau has warned hail is possible in some areas as the front passes.
