The City of Joondalup reported earlier this week that its Eco Shark Barrier had been torn but that repairs could not start until October.
Photos taken late yesterday show the continuing storm surge, which the council said has prevented contractors from securing the net, is causing even more damage.
A local ratepayer told The Sunday Times yesterday he was concerned the integrity of the net may be getting compromised beyond repair and that it needed to be anchored immediately if it were to be saved.
“It’s basically breaking all the way along and big chunks are washing up on the beach,” he said.
A City of Joondalup spokesperson contacted today could not confirm the extent of damage or the net’s insurance status.
