Photo of breastfeeding mum told to ‘cover up’ goes viral

THE internet is an intriguing place and so it has proven again thanks to a clever response from a breastfeeding mum told to “cover up” in public.

Melanie Dudley, nursing her four-month-old child in a Mexican restaurant at the time, did just that – by placing a blanket over her head.

Kitty Yannone posted a snap of the mum, saying: “I love my daughter-in-law so much!!! Someone told her to ‘cover up’ while she was feeding my grandson #5 in a restaurant!!”

The image was shared more than 1,500 times but that was just the beginning.

Fellow Facebook user Carol Lockwood showed support for the image, generating a further 177,000 shares and close to 100,000 reactions.

“A friend’s daughter-in-law was told to ‘cover up’ while feeding her baby, so she did!” Ms Lockwood said in the post.

“I’ve never met her, but I think she’s AWESOME!!!

“I’m SO over people shaming women for nursing!!!

“PS: To reduce speculation: it was a man who asked her to cover up, it was 90 degrees and extremely humid, and, no, she wasn’t in a Muslim country disrespecting traditions.”
