Subiaco Oval grandstands may survive wrecking ball in new inner city high school development

Sections of Subiaco Oval’s grandstands could be saved from demolition as the WA Government considers retaining part of the existing seating.

Planning Minister Rita Saffioti said plans for the former home of football would be finalised later this year, as part of a Government-led effort to revitalise Subiaco through a series of new developments.

With Subiaco Oval decommissioned as a professional sporting venue since the opening of Perth Stadium, demolition is set to commence within months โ€” with the existing playing surface to be maintained as recreation space for a new school at neighbouring Kitchener Park.

Ms Saffioti said most of the grandstands would be demolished, but keeping some of the existing facility was under consideration.

“We are looking at whether we keep some of the seats and some of the stands, but it would not be a significant stand,” she said.
