#auspol #libspill Liberal leadership; Turnbull is considering stepping down and letting Treasurer Scott Morrison to run against Peter Dutton

EVENTS are moving quickly in Canberra as the Liberal leadership crisis develops. Follow developments and reactions as they happen.

Sky News and Channel 7 are reporting that Malcolm Turnbull is considering stepping down and letting Treasurer Scott Morrison to run against Peter Dutton.

With Labor already having tested the Government’s numbers on the floor of the House this morning, narrowly failing to refer Peter Dutton’s business affairs to the High Court, it is all hands to the pump at Parliament House.

Barnaby Joyce has just cancelled an appearance at the National Press Club, planned to plug his new book, to ensure every MP in Parliament is available to vote if Labor again try to test the Government’s numbers in Parliament.

Campaigners from both major parties have gone onto a war footing as uncertainty grows about whether the Government will even last the day, amid concerns a Peter Dutton-led Government may not be able to command a majority on the floor of the House of Representatives.

WA State Labor secretary Matt Dixon sent out a fundraising email to party members last night under the title “Help. Election Imminent. Send Money”.

The Labor Party has been testing the Government’s resolve in the Parliament.

A motion to refer Peter Dutton to the High Court to determine if he is in breach of Section 44 went down 69-68.

Expect to see this come up later today when (or if), Question Time is held.
